Potterybarn Steals

More Pottery barn Kids deals today. Have I mentioned that I love Pottery barn Kids? lol. I would work there if there was a location closer to my house.
Anyhow, first up is a plain green backpack. The green one is on sale for just $13.99, marked down from $24.50.

I noticed just the backpack with no patches is $13.99. However, if you add the turtle patch to the bag it increases the price to $22.99. The patch is on clearance for 1.99 here
Buy the patch and glue it on or sew it on yourself to save the $8.00.....
If you don't like the turtle patch they also have a few other patches on clearance as well. You could also buy your own patches at Walmart or Hobby Lobby to add to your bag.

Fleur De Lis Magnets, FREE

This project was free for me because I used materials I already had.

But, it would cost you around $5.00 to make around 20 magnets.

I spray painted my clothespins with some silver spray paint. I cut up a magnet sheet to fit on the back of the clothespin.

I used my silhouette to cut out the fluer de lis image and glued it to the clothespin.

Done.

Chevron Rug

Project #2 with the leftover chevron fabric, I'm going to make as many things as I can with the 2 yards of fabric :)
This is a very simple project. I made a"rug slipcover" for a clearance Christmas Rug I found at Kohl's.
I purchased this rug for $1.19 this week on super clearance.
You can get any type of rug you want because you are going to cover it anyway.

I wanted to be able to wash mine since it was white. Essentially, all you are doing is sewing a pillowcase for your rug. Fold your fabric right sides together and Measure your rug. Cut the fabric an inch longer on each so that you can have a 1/2 inch seam allowance when you sew it together. This also helps in case it shrinks again in the wash. (I always pre-wash all my fabrics)

Your finished rug will look like this:

Reupholstered Chevron Chairs and Rug

So far this is my favorite DIY home project yet. I am in crazy love with Chevron fabric these days. Any color, any size, I love it.

I picked up 2 yards of  Black Chevron Fabric at my local Hobby Lobby on sale for $4.89/yd

Plain jane chairs I purchased at Walmart years ago, they still have them here

I wanted to recover these because of some stains on the top that I haven't been able to wash out and I wanted some updated chairs without buying new ones.

Turn your chair over and unscrew the cushion from the base.
Measure out a square 4 inches bigger on each side than what you need to cover your chair to ensure you have enough to work with.
I chose to go over the existing fabric because its super thick and super soft, but you could remove it before you start.
Hot glue your fabric all the way around, pulling each section tight and evening out the lumps and bumps. I had two chairs to cover and used about 3/4 yard total for both.

Screw it back on tight and you are done!

Finished Chair: less than $5 for two chairs

Stay tuned for the next two projects using the leftover Chevron fabric. :)

Utensil Holder for Birthdays, Showers, Weddings, etc.

I've been trying to find the cheapest items I can to "upcycle"for my projects in 2013. This seems to save the most money and time.
I found a tissue Holder on sale at the Goodwill for 25 cents.

I sanded off the image on all sides of the paper holder. Originally I wanted to paint this blue but I changed my mind at the last minute lol.

I used scrapbook paper and accessories I already owned to complete the box.
I adhered cardstock and patterned paper to the sides of the box and cut off the excess.
I used a hot glue gun, but you could use regular glue or a glue runner to adhere.

Using this box as themed decor for my upcoming sons birthday party, I think it turned out really adorable. You could make something like this for any birthday, shower or wedding, especially if you are having trouble matching the colors of the party.
For a wedding, attach your wedding invitiation to one side of the box. For a girls birthday, attach a large flower or cover the box with several flowers. For a shower, attach the ultrasound picture to it and cover the remaining with blue or pink paper.
You could also spray paint it to match colors in your home, such as a washcloth holder for your bathroom.
 Enjoy :)
